Joan Crawford: A Study in Glamour

Before the change (the brows, the bad lip-liner, the hardened gaze), Joan Crawford was one of the most glamorous creatures ever produced by Hollywood. I love Joan because she took her stardom seriously. For Joan, her image, her glamour and her mystique was a full-time job. As a fan, what more could I ask?

This photo is of Joan right before her glory years of the 1930s, but she looks so cute, I had to add it:

These photos are of the Joan Crawford that ruled the cinema screens in the 1930s. The images speak for themselves. Words are not necessary.

Thank you, Joan. We know that stars don't really live on a remote mountain like shimmering gods and goddesses, but we appreciate your efforts in helping build this beautiful fantasy. For that, we are forever grateful.

  1. Great stuff, as usual, FlickChick. I absolutely agree with your take on how essential Ms. Crawford is for one's full and complete appreciation of what's forever alive and swell at the center of whatever it is that so many of our collective cinematic dreams are made of. In other words, she indeed had it all. The look, the profile, the eyes, the hair, the posture, the drive, the determination, and, more importantly, a level of uncompromising talent that few in this town could ever begin to come close to. In still other words, thanks so much for yet another marvelous entry in your ongoing "My Movie Dream Book" catalog. The photos are magnificent, as are your words that once again carry forth your must-read message both loud and clear.

  2. Thank you so much for your kind words, John. I so hope that people will appreciate Joan and not judge her stardom by her private life. She was such an important star and a real bridge between the untouchable gods and goddesses of the silent era and the more realistic types that followed in the sound era.

  3. The first picture is adorable. I love seeing young pictures where the person hasn't yet evolved into the style they end up being known for

  4. Thanks, Selina - I thought it was adorable, too. She wasn't quite "Joan Crawford" yet, but you can see that the girl had something!
